James Tucker 324f0d5f80 cmd/cloner,*: revert: optimize nillable slice cloner ...

This reverts commit ee90cd02fdd4e4125ec9d12eef1195ed36ef4b2e.

The outcome is not identical for empty slices. Cloner really needs
tests!
