'crt-store' is a new section useful to define the struct ckch_store.
The "load" keyword in the "crt-store" section allows to define which
files you want to load for a specific certificate definition.
Ex:

This is part of the certificate loading which was discussed in #785.
The main CLI I/O handle is responsible to interrupt the processing on
shutdown/abort. It is not the responsibility of the I/O handler of CLI
commands to take care of it.
This option can be used to set a default ocsp-update mode for all
certificates of a given conf file. It allows to activate ocsp-update on
certificates without the need to create separate crt-lists. It can still
be superseded by the crt-list 'ocsp-update' option. It takes either "on"
or "off" as value and defaults to "off".
Since setting this new parameter to "on" would mean that we try to
enable ocsp-update on any certificate, and also certificates that don't
have an OCSP URI, the checks performed in ssl_sock_load_ocsp were
softened. We don't systematically raise an error when trying to enable
ocsp-update on a certificate that does not have an OCSP URI, be it via
the global option or the crt-list one. We will still raise an error when
a user tries to load a certificate that does have an OCSP URI but a
missing issuer certificate (if ocsp-update is enabled).
With the current way OCSP responses are stored, a single OCSP response
is stored (in a certificate_ocsp structure) when it is loaded during a
certificate parsing, and each SSL_CTX that references it increments its
refcount. The reference to the certificate_ocsp is kept in the SSL_CTX
linked to each ckch_inst, in an ex_data entry that gets freed when the
context is freed.
One of the downsides of this implementation is that if every ckch_inst
referencing a certificate_ocsp gets detroyed, then the OCSP response is
removed from the system. So if we were to remove all crt-list lines
containing a given certificate (that has an OCSP response), and if all
the corresponding SSL_CTXs were destroyed (no ongoing connection using
them), the OCSP response would be destroyed even if the certificate
remains in the system (as an unused certificate).
In such a case, we would want the OCSP response not to be "usable",
since it is not used by any ckch_inst, but still remain in the OCSP
response tree so that if the certificate gets reused (via an "add ssl
crt-list" command for instance), its OCSP response is still known as
well.
But we would also like such an entry not to be updated automatically
anymore once no instance uses it. An easy way to do it could have been
to keep a reference to the certificate_ocsp structure in the ckch_store
as well, on top of all the ones in the ckch_instances, and to remove the
ocsp response from the update tree once the refcount falls to 1, but it
would not work because of the way the ocsp response tree keys are
calculated. They are decorrelated from the ckch_store and are the actual
OCSP_CERTIDs, which is a combination of the issuer's name hash and key
hash, and the certificate's serial number. So two copies of the same
certificate but with different names would still point to the same ocsp
response tree entry.
The solution that answers to all the needs expressed aboved is actually
to have two reference counters in the certificate_ocsp structure, one
actual reference counter corresponding to the number of "live" pointers
on the certificate_ocsp structure, incremented for every SSL_CTX using
it, and one for the ckch stores.
If the ckch_store reference counter falls to 0, the corresponding
certificate must have been removed via CLI calls ('set ssl cert' for
instance).
If the actual refcount falls to 0, then no live SSL_CTX uses the
response anymore. It could happen if all the corresponding crt-list
lines were removed and there are no live SSL sessions using the
certificate anymore.
If any of the two refcounts becomes 0, we will always remove the
response from the auto update tree, because there's no point in spending
time updating an OCSP response that no new SSL connection will be able
to use. But the certificate_ocsp object won't be removed from the tree
unless both refcounts are 0.
Must be backported up to 2.8. Wait a little bit before backporting.
This patch reverts 2 fixes that were made in an attempt to fix the
ocsp-update feature used with the 'commit ssl cert' command.
The patches crash the worker when doing a soft-stop when the 'set ssl
ocsp-response' command was used, or during runtime if the ocsp-update
was used.
This was reported in issue #2462 and #2442.
The last patch reverted is the associated reg-test.

Due to the possibility of calling a control process after adding CRLs, the
ssl_commit_crlfile_cb variable was added. It is actually a pointer to the
callback function, which is called if defined after initial loading of CRL
data from disk and after committing CRL data via CLI command
'commit ssl crl-file ..'.
If the callback function returns an error, then the CLI commit operation
is terminated.
Also, one case was added to the CLI context used by "commit cafile" and
"commit crlfile": CACRL_ST_CRLCB in which the callback function is called.

The ckch_store's free'ing function might end up calling
'ssl_sock_free_ocsp' if the corresponding certificate had ocsp data.
This ocsp cleanup function expects for the 'refcount_instance' member of
the certificate_ocsp structure to be 0, meaning that no live
ckch instance kept a reference on this certificate_ocsp structure.
But since in ckch_store_free we were destroying the ckch_data before
destroying the linked instances, the BUG_ON would fail during a standard
deinit. Reversing the cleanup order fixes the problem.
Must be backported to 2.8.

The only useful information taken out of the ckch_store in order to copy
an OCSP certid into a buffer (later used as a key for entries in the
OCSP response tree) is the ocsp_certid field of the ckch_data structure.
We then don't need to pass a pointer to the full ckch_store to
ckch_store_build_certid or even any information related to the store
itself.
The ckch_store_build_certid is then converted into a helper function
that simply takes an OCSP_CERTID and converts it into a char buffer.
When calling ckchs_dup (during a "set ssl cert" CLI command), if the
modified store had OCSP auto update enabled then the new certificate
would not keep the previous update mode and would not appear in the auto
update list.
This patch can be backported to 2.8.
This patch follows the previous one about default certificate selection
("MEDIUM: ssl: allow multiple fallback certificate to allow ECDSA/RSA
selection").
This patch generates '*" SNI filters for the first certificate of a
bind line, it will be used to match default certificates. Instead of
setting the default_ctx pointer in the bind line.
Since the filters are in the SNI tree, it allows to have multiple
default certificate and restore the ecdsa/rsa selection with a
multi-cert bundle.
This configuration:
# foobar.pem.ecdsa and foobar.pem.rsa
bind *:8443 ssl crt foobar.pem crt next.pem
will use "foobar.pem.ecdsa" and "foobar.pem.rsa" as default
certificates.
Note: there is still cleanup needed around default_ctx.
This was discussed in github issue #2392.
This bug could be reproduced with the "set ssl cert" CLI command to update
a certificate. The OCSP CID is duplicated by ckchs_dup() which calls
ssl_sock_copy_cert_key_and_chain(). It should be computed again by
ssl_sock_load_ocsp(). This may be accomplished resetting the new ckch OCSP CID
returned by ckchs_dup().
This bug may be in relation with GH #2319.
Must be backported to 2.8.
This patch allows cli_io_handler_commit_cert() callback called upon
a "commit ssl cert ..." command to prefix the messages returned by the CLI
to the by the ones built by ha_warining(), ha_alert().
Should be interesting to backport this commit to 2.8.
In several places in the file src/ssl_ckch.c, in the message about the
incorrect use of the CLI command, the end of that CLI command is not
correctly marked with the sign ' .
Bug was introduced by commit 26654 ("MINOR: ssl: add "crt" in the
cert_exts array").
When looking for a .crt directly in the cert_exts array, the
ssl_sock_load_pem_into_ckch() function will be called with a argument
which does not have its ".crt" extensions anymore.
If "ssl-load-extra-del-ext" is used this is not a problem since we try
to add the ".crt" when doing the lookup in the tree.
However when using directly a ".crt" without this option it will failed
looking for the file in the tree.
The fix removes the "crt" entry from the array since it does not seem to
be really useful without a rework of all the lookups.

The purpose of this patch is only a one-to-one replacement, as far as
possible.
CF_SHUTR(_NOW) and CF_SHUTW(_NOW) flags are now carried by the
stream-connecter. CF_ prefix is replaced by SC_FL_ one. Of course, it is not
so simple because at many places, we were testing if a channel was shut for
reads and writes in same time. To do the same, shut for reads must be tested
on one side on the SC and shut for writes on the other side on the opposite
SC. A special care was taken with process_stream(). flags of SCs must be
saved to be able to detect changes, just like for the channels.
This change was performed on all applet I/O handlers but one was missed. In
the CLI I/O handler used to commit a CA/CRL file, we can remove the test on
CF_WRITE_ERROR because there is already a test on CF_SHUTW.
In applets, we stop processing when a write error (CF_WRITE_ERROR) or a shutdown
for writes (CF_SHUTW) is detected. However, any write error leads to an
immediate shutdown for writes. Thus, it is enough to only test if CF_SHUTW is
set.
The ocsp_response member of the cert_key_and_chain structure is only
used temporarily. During a standard init process where an ocsp response
is provided, this ocsp file is first copied into the ocsp_response
buffer without any ocsp-related parsing (see
ssl_sock_load_ocsp_response_from_file), and then the contents are
actually interpreted and inserted into the actual ocsp tree
(cert_ocsp_tree) later in the process (see ssl_sock_load_ocsp). If the
response was deemed valid, it is then copied into the actual
ocsp_response structure's 'response' field (see
ssl_sock_load_ocsp_response). From this point, the ocsp_response field
of the cert_key_and_chain object could be discarded since actual ocsp
operations will be based of the certificate_ocsp object.
The only remaining runtime use of the ckch's ocsp_response field was in
the CLI, and more precisely in the 'show ssl cert' mechanism.
This constraint could be removed by adding an OCSP_CERTID directly in
the ckch because the buffer was only used to get this id.
This patch then adds the OCSP_CERTID pointer in the ckch, it clears the
ocsp_response buffer early and simplifies the ckch_store_build_certid
function.
Rename the structure "cert_key_and_chain" to "ckch_data" in order to
avoid confusion with the store whcih often called "ckchs".
The "cert_key_and_chain *ckch" were renamed "ckch_data *data", so we now
have store->data instead of ckchs->ckch.
Marked medium because it changes the API.
With an OpenSSL library which use the wrong OPENSSLDIR, HAProxy tries to
load the OPENSSLDIR/certs/ into @system-ca, but emits a warning when it
can't.
This patch fixes the issue by allowing to shut the error when the SSL
configuration for the httpclient is not explicit.
Must be backported in 2.6.

Commit 432cd1a ("MEDIUM: ssl: be stricter about chain error") removed
the ERR_GET_LIB(ret) != ERR_LIB_PEM to be stricter about errors.
However, PEM_R_NO_START_LINE is better be checked with ERR_LIB_PEM.
So this patch complete the previous one.
The original problem was that the condition was wrongly inversed. This
original code from openssl:

This must not be backported as it will break a lot of setup. That's too
bad because a lot of errors are lost. Not marked as a bug because of the
breakage it could cause on working setups.
The error check on certificate chain was ignoring all decoding error,
silently ignoring some errors.
This patch fixes the issue by being stricter on errors when reading the
chain, this is a change of behavior, it could break existing setup that
has a wrong chain.

ckch_inst_free() unlink the ckch_inst_link structure but never free it.
It can't be fixed simply because cli_io_handler_commit_cafile_crlfile()
is using a cafile_entry list to iterate a list of ckch_inst entries
to free. So both cli_io_handler_commit_cafile_crlfile() and
ckch_inst_free() would modify the list at the same time.
In order to let the caller manipulate the ckch_inst_link,
ckch_inst_free() now checks if the element is still attached before
trying to detach and free it.
For this trick to work, the caller need to do a LIST_DEL_INIT() during
the iteration over the ckch_inst_link.
list_for_each_entry was also replace by a while (!LIST_ISEMPTY()) on the
head list in cli_io_handler_commit_cafile_crlfile() so the iteration
works correctly, because it could have been stuck on the first detached
element. list_for_each_entry_safe() is not enough to fix the issue since
multiple element could have been removed.
Must be backported as far as 2.5.

The architecture is ambiguous here: ckch_inst_free() is detaching and
freeing the "ckch_inst_link" linked list which must be free'd only from
the cafile_entry side.
The problem was also hidden by the fix ddd480c ("BUG/MEDIUM: ssl: Fix a
UAF when old ckch instances are released") which change the ckchi_link
inner loop by a safe one. However this can't fix entirely the problem
since both __ckch_inst_free_locked() could remove several nodes in the
ckchi_link linked list.
This revert is voluntary reintroducing a memory leak before really fixing
the problem.
Must be backported in 2.5 + 2.6.
When old chck instances is released at the end of "commit ssl ca-file" or
"commit ssl crl-file" commands, the link is released. But we walk through
the list using the unsafe macro. list_for_each_entry_safe() must be used.

In ticket #1805 an user is impacted by the limitation of size of the CLI
buffer when updating a ca-file.
This patch allows a user to append new certificates to a ca-file instead
of trying to put them all with "set ssl ca-file"
The implementation use a new function ssl_store_dup_cafile_entry() which
duplicates a cafile_entry and its X509_STORE.
ssl_store_load_ca_from_buf() was modified to take an apped parameter so
we could share the function for "set" and "add".
In order to be able to append new CA in a cafile_entry,
ssl_store_load_ca_from_buf() was reworked and a "append" parameter was
added.
The function is able to keep the previous X509_STORE which was already
present in the cafile_entry.
"set ssl ca-file" does not return any error when a ca-file is empty or
only contains comments. This could be a problem is the file was
malformated and did not contain any PEM header.
It must be backported as far as 2.5.
Enhance the errors and warnings when trying to load a ca-file with
ssl_store_load_locations_file().
Add errors from ERR_get_error() and strerror to give more information to
the user.
It looks like OpenSSL 1.0.2 returns an error when trying to insert a
certificate whis is already present in a X509_STORE.
This patch simply ignores the X509_R_CERT_ALREADY_IN_HASH_TABLE error if
emitted.
Should fix part of issue #1780.

A bug was introduced by commit 9bf3a1f67e
"BUG/MINOR: ssl: Fix crash when no private key is found in pem".
If a private key is already contained in a pem file, we will still look
for a .key file and load its private key if it exists when we should
not.
This patch should be backported to all branches where the original fix
was backported (all the way to 2.2).
As reported in issue #1755, gcc-9.3 and 9.4 emit a "maybe-uninitialized"
warning in cli_io_handler_commit_cafile_crlfile() because it sees that
when the "path" variable is not set, we're jumping to the error label
inside the loop but cannot see that the new state will avoid the places
where the value is used. Thus it's a false positive but a difficult one.
Let's just preset the value to NULL to make it happy.
This was introduced in 2.7-dev by commit ddc8e1cf8 ("MINOR: ssl_ckch:
Simplify I/O handler to commit changes on CA/CRL entry"), thus no
backport is needed for now.

Simplify cli_io_handler_commit_cafile_crlfile() handler function by
retrieving old and new entries at the beginning. In addition the path is
also retrieved at this stage. This removes several switch statements.

While it is not a bug, this patch may help to fix issue #1731.

'commit ssl crl-file' command is also concerned. This patch is similar to
the previous one. Full buffer cases when we try to push the reply are not
properly handled. To fix the issue, the functions responsible to commit CA
or CRL entry changes were reworked.
First, the error message is now part of the service context. This way, if we
cannot push the error message in the reponse buffer, we may retry later. To
do so, a dedicated state was created (CACRL_ST_ERROR). Then, the success
message is also handled in a dedicated state (CACRL_ST_SUCCESS). This way we
are able to retry to push it if necessary. Finally, the dot displayed for
each updated CKCH instance is now immediatly pushed in the response buffer,
and before the update. This way, we are able to retry too if necessary.
This patch should fix the issue #1722. It must be backported as far as
2.5. But a massive refactoring was performed in 2.6. So, for the 2.5, the
patch will have to be adapted.
When changes on a certificate are commited, a trash buffer is used to create
the response. Once done, the message is copied in the response buffer.
However, if the buffer is full, there is no way to retry and the message is
lost. The same issue may happen with the error message. It is a design issue
of cli_io_handler_commit_cert() function.
To fix it, the function was reworked. First, the error message is now part
of the service context. This way, if we cannot push the error message in the
reponse buffer, we may retry later. To do so, a dedicated state was created
(CERT_ST_ERROR). Then, the success message is also handled in a dedicated
state (CERT_ST_SUCCESS). This way we are able to retry to push it if
necessary. Finally, the dot displayed for each updated CKCH instance is now

When a CA or CRL entry is replaced (via 'set ssl ca-file' or 'set ssl
crl-file' commands), the path is duplicated and used to identify the ongoing
transaction. However, if the same command is repeated, the path is still
duplicated but the transaction is not changed and the duplicated path is not
released. Thus there is a memory leak.
By reviewing the code, it appears there is no reason to duplicate the

When a certificate entry is replaced (via 'set ssl cert' command), the path
is duplicated and used to identify the ongoing transaction. However, if the
same command is repeated, the path is still duplicated but the transaction
is not changed and the duplicated path is not released. Thus there is a
memory leak.
By reviewing the code, it appears there is no reason to duplicate the
path. It is always the path of the old entry. So, a reference on it is now

There's no more reason for keepin the code and definitions in conn_stream,
let's move all that to stconn. The alphabetical ordering of include files
was adjusted.
This file contains all the stream-connector functions that are specific
to application layers of type stream. So let's name it accordingly so
that it's easier to figure what's located there.
The alphabetical ordering of include files was preserved.
The analysis of cs_rx_endp_more() showed that the purpose is for a stream
endpoint to inform the connector that it's ready to deliver more data to
that one, and conversely cs_rx_endp_done() that it's done delivering data
so it should not be bothered again for this.
This was modified two ways:
- the operation is no longer performed on the connector but on the
endpoint so that there is no more doubt when reading applet code
about what this rx refers to; it's the endpoint that has more or
no more data.
- an applet implementation is also provided and mostly used from
applet code since it saves the caller from having to access the
endpoint descriptor.
It's visible that the flag ought to be inverted because some places
have to set it by default for no reason.
We're starting to propagate the stream connector's new name through the
API. Most call places of these functions that retrieve the channel or its
buffer are in applets. The local variable names are not changed in order
to keep the changes small and reviewable. There were ~92 uses of cs_ic(),
~96 of cs_oc() (due to co_get*() being less factorizable than ci_put*),
and ~5 accesses to the buffer itself.
This applies the change so that the applet code stops using ci_putchk()
and friends everywhere possible, for the much saferapplet_put*() instead.
The change is mechanical but large. Two or three functions used to have no
appctx and a cs derived from the appctx instead, which was a reminiscence
of old times' stream_interface. These were simply changed to directly take
the appctx. No sensitive change was performed, and the old (more complex)
API is still usable when needed (e.g. the channel is already known).
The change touched roughly a hundred of locations, with no less than 124
lines removed.
It's worth noting that the stats applet, the oldest of the series, could
get a serious lifting, as it's still very channel-centric instead of
propagating the appctx along the chain. Given that this code doesn't
change often, there's no emergency to clean it up but it would look
better.
This renames the "struct conn_stream" to "struct stconn" and updates
the descriptions in all comments (and the rare help descriptions) to
"stream connector" or "connector". This touches a lot of files but
the change is minimal. The local variables were not even renamed, so
there's still a lot of "cs" everywhere.
If no private key can be found in a bind line's certificate and
ssl-load-extra-files is set to none we end up trying to call
X509_check_private_key with a NULL key, which crashes.
This fix should be backported to all stable branches.
This one is the pointer to the conn_stream which is always in the
endpoint that is always present in the appctx, thus it's not needed.
This patch removes it and replaces it with appctx_cs() instead. A
few occurences that were using __cs_strm(appctx->owner) were moved
directly to appctx_strm() which does the equivalent.
The CRL file CLI update code was strongly based off the CA one and some
copy-paste issues were then introduced.
This patch fixes GitHub issue #1685.
It should be backported to 2.5.
These two commands use distinct parse/release functions but a common
iohandler, thus they need to keep the same context. It was created
under the name "commit_cacrlfile_ctx" and holds a large part of the
pointers (6) and the ca_type field that helps distinguish between
the two commands for the I/O handler. It looks like some of these
fields could have been merged since apparently the CA part only
uses *cafile* and the CRL part *crlfile*, while both old and new
are of type cafile_entry and set only for each type. This could
probably even simplify some parts of the code that tries to use
the correct field.
These fields were the last ones to be migrated thus the appctx's
ssl context could finally be removed.

applet context is a mess would be an understatement. It's very hard
to know what command uses what fields, even after having moved away
from the mix of cli and ssl.
Let's extract the parts used by "show cafile" into their own structure.

fields are still shared with other commands.

but should these fields be reordered or slightly updated this will break.

HAProxy crashes when "show ssl ca-file" is being called on a ca-file
which contains a lot of certificates. (127 in our test with
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt).
The root cause is the fonction does not yield when there is no available
space when writing the details, and we could write a lot.
To fix the issue, we try to put the data with ci_putchk() after every
show_cert_detail() and we yield if the ci_putchk() fails.
This patch also cleans up a little bit the code:
- the end label is now a real end with a return 1;
- i0 is used instead of (long)p1
- the ID is stored upon yield
The cafile_tree was never free upon deinit, making valgrind and ASAN
complains when haproxy quits.
This could be backported as far as 2.2 but it requires the
ssl_store_delete_cafile_entry() helper from
5daff3c8ab.
