In 9a74a6c ("MAJOR: log: introduce log backends"), a mistake was made:
it was assumed that the proxy mode was already known during server
keyword parsing in parse_server() function, but this is wrong.
Indeed, "mode log" can be declared late in the proxy section. Due to this,
a simple config like this will cause the process to crash:

In order to fix this, we relax some checks in _srv_parse_init() and store
the address protocol from str2sa_range() in server struct, then we set-up
a postparsing function that is to be called after config parsing to
finish the server checks/initialization that depend on the proxy mode
to be known. We achieve this by checking the PR_CAP_LB capability from
the parent proxy to know if we're in such case where the effective proxy
mode is not yet known (it is assumed that other proxies which are implicit
ones don't provide this possibility and thus don't suffer from this
constraint).
Only then, if the capability is not found, we immediately perform the
server checks that depend on the proxy mode, else the check is postponed
and it will automatically be performed during postparsing thanks to the
REGISTER_POST_SERVER_CHECK() hook.
Note that we remove the SRV_PARSE_IN_LOG_BE flag because it was introduced
in the above commit and it is no longer relevant.
No backport needed unless 9a74a6c gets backported.
hash lb algorithm can be configured with the "log-balance hash <cnv_list>"
directive. With this algorithm, the user specifies a converter list with
<cnv_list>.
The produced log message will be passed as-is to the provided converter
list, and the resulting hash will be used to select the log server that
will receive the log message.
Allow the use of the "none" hash-type function so that the key resulting
from the sample expression is directly used as the hash.
This can be useful to do the hashing manually using available hashing
converters, or even custom ones, and then inform haproxy that it can
directly rely on the sample expression result which is explictly handled
as an integer in this case.
Using "mode log" in a backend section turns the proxy in a log backend
which can be used to log-balance logs between multiple log targets
(udp or tcp servers)
log backends can be used as regular log targets using the log directive
with "backend@be_name" prefix, like so:

A log backend will distribute log messages to servers according to the
log load-balancing algorithm that can be set using the "log-balance"
option from the log backend section. For now, only the roundrobin
algorithm is supported and set by default.
When 'log' directive was implemented, the internal representation was
named 'struct logsrv', because the 'log' directive would directly point
to the log target, which used to be a (UDP) log server exclusively at
that time, hence the name.
But things have become more complex, since today 'log' directive can point
to ring targets (implicit, or named) for example.
Indeed, a 'log' directive does no longer reference the "final" server to
which the log will be sent, but instead it describes which log API and
parameters to use for transporting the log messages to the proper log
destination.
So now the term 'logsrv' is rather confusing and prevents us from
introducing a new level of abstraction because they would be mixed
with logsrv.
So in order to better designate this 'log' directive, and make it more
generic, we chose the word 'logger' which now replaces logsrv everywhere
it was used in the code (including related comments).
This is internal rewording, so no functional change should be expected
on user-side.
haproxy will report a warning when "use-server" keyword is used within a
backend that doesn't support server rules to inform the user that rules
will be ignored.
To this day, only TCP and HTTP backends can make use of it.
Now that we have free_acl_cond(cond) function that does cond prune then
frees cond, replace all occurences of this pattern:

proxy http-only options implemented in http_ext were statically stored
within proxy struct.
We're making some changes so that http_ext are now stored in a dynamically
allocated structs.
http_ext related structs are only allocated when needed to save some space
whenever possible, and they are automatically freed upon proxy deletion.
Related PX_O_HTTP{7239,XFF,XOT) option flags were removed because we're now
considering an http_ext option as 'active' if it is allocated (ptr is not NULL)
A few checks (and BUG_ON) were added to make these changes safe because
it adds some (acceptable) complexity to the previous design.
Also, proxy.http was renamed to proxy.http_ext to make things more explicit.
Just like forwarded (7239) header and forwardfor header, move parsing,

Introducing http_ext class for http extension related work that
doesn't fit into existing http classes.
HTTP extension "forwarded", introduced with 7239 RFC is now supported
by haproxy.
The option supports various modes from simple to complex usages involving
custom sample expressions.

ebpt_next_dup() was used 2 times in a row but only the first call was
checked against NULL, probably assuming that the 2 calls always yield the
same result here.
gcc is not OK with that, and it should be safer to store the result of
the first call in a temporary var to dereference it once checked against NULL.
This should fix GH #1869.

It may be backported up to 2.4.
This was already causing a deprecation warning and was marked for removal
in 2.7, now it happens. An error message indicates this doesn't exist
anymore.
This now makes sure that both the peers' "bind" line and the regular one
will use the exact same parser with the exact same behavior. Note that
the parser applies after the address and that it could be factored
further, since the peers one still does quite a bit of duplicated work.
negation or default modifiers are not supported for this option. However,
this was already tested earlier in cfg_parse_listen() function. Thus, when
"http-restrict-req-hdr-names" option is parsed, the keyword modifier is
always equal to KWM_STD. It is useless to test it again at this place.
This patch should solve the issue #1702.
The "http-restrict-req-hdr-names" option can now be set to restrict allowed
characters in the request header names to the "[a-zA-Z0-9-]" charset.
Idea of this option is to not send header names with non-alphanumeric or
hyphen character. It is especially important for FastCGI application because
all those characters are converted to underscore. For instance,
"X-Forwarded-For" and "X_Forwarded_For" are both converted to
"HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR". So, header names can be mixed up by FastCGI
applications. And some HAProxy rules may be bypassed by mangling header
names. In addition, some non-HTTP compliant servers may incorrectly handle
requests when header names contain characters ouside the "[a-zA-Z0-9-]"
charset.
When this option is set, the policy must be specify:
* preserve: It disables the filtering. It is the default mode for HTTP
proxies with no FastCGI application configured.
* delete: It removes request headers with a name containing a character
outside the "[a-zA-Z0-9-]" charset. It is the default mode for
HTTP backends with a configured FastCGI application.
* reject: It rejects the request with a 403-Forbidden response if it
contains a header name with a character outside the
"[a-zA-Z0-9-]" charset.
The option is evaluated per-proxy and after http-request rules evaluation.
This patch may be backported to avoid any secuirty issue with FastCGI
application (so as far as 2.2).
There were plenty of leftovers from old code that were never removed
and that are not needed at all since these files do not use any
definition depending on fcntl.h, let's drop them.
Captures must only be defined in proxies with the frontend capabilities or
in defaults sections used by proxies with the frontend capabilities. Thus,
an extra check is added to be sure a defaults section defining a capture
will never be references by a backend.
Note that in this case, only named captures in "tcp-request content" or
"http-request" rules are possible. It is not possible in a defaults section
to decalre a capture slot. Not yet at least.
This patch must be backported to 2.5. It is releated to issue #1674.

When the sample validity flags are computed to check if a sample is used in
a valid scope, the flags depending on the proxy capabilities must be
cumulated. Historically, for a sample on the request, only the frontend
capability was used to set the sample validity flags while for a sample on
the response only the backend was used. But it is a problem for listen or
defaults proxies. For those proxies, all frontend and backend samples should
be valid. However, at many place, only frontend ones are possible.
For instance, it is impossible to set the backend name (be_name) into a
variable from a listen proxy.
This bug exists on all stable versions. Thus this patch should probably be
backported. But with some caution because the code has probably changed
serveral times. Note that nobody has ever noticed this issue. So the need to
backport this patch must be evaluated for each branch.
TCP and HTTP rules can now be defined in defaults sections, but only those
with a name. Because these rules may use conditions based on ACLs, ACLs can
also be defined in defaults sections.
However there are some limitations:
* A defaults section defining TCP/HTTP rules cannot be used by a defaults
section
* A defaults section defining TCP/HTTP rules cannot be used bu a listen
section
* A defaults sections defining TCP/HTTP rules cannot be used by frontends
and backends at the same time
* A defaults sections defining 'tcp-request connection' or 'tcp-request
session' rules cannot be used by backends
* A defaults sections defining 'tcp-response content' rules cannot be used
by frontends
The TCP request/response inspect-delay of a proxy is now inherited from the
defaults section it uses. For now, these rules are only parsed. No evaluation is
performed.
With the commit eaba25dd9 ("BUG/MINOR: tcpcheck: Don't use arg list for
default proxies during parsing"), we restricted the use of sample fetch in
tcpcheck rules defined in a defaults section to those depending on explicit
arguments only. This means a tcpcheck rules defined in a defaults section
cannot rely on argument unresolved during the configuration parsing.
Thanks to recent changes, it is now possible again.
This patch is mandatory to support TCP/HTTP rules in defaults sections.
When the parsing of a defaults section is started, the previous anonymous
defaults section is removed. It may be a problem with referenced defaults
sections. And because all unused defautl proxies are removed after the
configuration parsing, it is not required to remove it so early.

It is now possible to designate the defaults section to use by adding a name
of the corresponding defaults section and referencing it in the desired
proxy section. However, this introduces an ambiguity. This named defaults
section may still be implicitly used by other proxies if it is the last one
defined. In this case for instance:

Here, it is not really obvious the last section will use the 'bck' defaults
section. And it is probably not the expected behaviour. To help users to
properly configure their haproxy, a warning is now emitted if a defaults
section is explicitly AND implicitly used. The configuration manual was
updated accordingly.
Because this patch adds a warning, it should probably not be backported to
2.4. However, if is is backported, it depends on commit "MINOR: proxy:
Introduce proxy flags to replace disabled bitfield".
This change is required to support TCP/HTTP rules in defaults sections. The
'disabled' bitfield in the proxy structure, used to know if a proxy is
disabled or stopped, is replaced a generic bitfield named 'flags'.
PR_DISABLED and PR_STOPPED flags are renamed to PR_FL_DISABLED and
PR_FL_STOPPED respectively. In addition, everywhere there is a test to know
if a proxy is disabled or stopped, there is now a bitwise AND operation on
PR_FL_DISABLED and/or PR_FL_STOPPED flags.
.disabled field in the proxy structure is documented to be a bitfield. So
use it as a bitfield. This change was introduced to the 2.5, by commit
8e765b86f ("MINOR: proxy: disabled takes a stopping and a disabled state").
No backport is needed except if the above commit is backported.
This option can be used to define a specific log format that will be
used in case of error, timeout, connection failure on a frontend... It
will be used for any log line concerned by the log-separate-errors
option. It will also replace the format of specific error messages
decribed in section 8.2.6.
If no "error-log-format" is defined, the legacy error messages are still
emitted and the other error logs keep using the regular log-format.
This patch splits the disabled state of a proxy into a PR_DISABLED and a
PR_STOPPED state.
The first one is set when the proxy is disabled in the configuration
file, and the second one is set upon a stop_proxy().
This option had always been broken in HTX, which means that the first
breakage appeared in 1.9, that it was broken by default in 2.0 and that
no workaround existed starting with 2.1. The way this option works is
praticularly unfit to the rest of the configuration and to the internal
architecture. It had some uses when it was introduced 14 years ago but
nowadays it's possible to do much better and more reliable using a
set of "http-request set-dst" and "http-request set-uri" rules, which
additionally are compatible with DNS resolution (via do-resolve) and
are not exclusive to normal load balancing. The "option-http_proxy"
example config file was updated to reflect this.
The option is still parsed so that an error message gives hints about
what to look for.
Lots of places iterating over nbproc or comparing with nbproc could be
simplified. Further, "bind-process" and "process" parsing that was
already limited to process 1 or "all" or "odd" resulted in a bind_proc
field that was either 0 or 1 during the init phase and later always 1.
All the checks for compatibilities were removed since it's not possible
anymore to run a frontend and a backend on different processes or to
have peers and stick-tables bound on different ones. This is the largest
part of this patch.
The bind_proc field was removed from both the proxy and the receiver
structs.
Since the "process" and "bind-process" directives are still parsed,
configs making use of correct values allowing process 1 will continue
to work.
Commit ab0a5192a ("MEDIUM: config: mark "grace" as deprecated") marked
the "grace" keyword as deprecated in 2.3, tentative removal for 2.4
with a hard deadline in 2.5, so let's remove it and return an error now.
This old and outdated feature was incompatible with soft-stop, reload
and socket transfers, and keeping it forced ugly hacks in the lower
layers of the protocol stack.
It was marked as deprecated in 2.1-dev2 and for removal in 2.2, but it
was missed. A warning was already emitted and the doc didn't refer to
it any more, let's now get rid of it.
It's been warning as being deprecated since 2.0-dev4, it's about time
to drop it now. The error message recommends to either remove it or
use "option httpclose" instead. It's still referred to in the old
internal doc about the connection header, which itself seems highly
inaccurate by now.
Add a new proxy capability for proxy with load-balancing capabilities.
This help to differentiate listen/frontend/backend with special proxies
such as peer proxies.
Add a new flag to mark a keyword as experimental. An experimental
keyword cannot be used if the global 'expose-experimental-directives' is
not present first.
Only keywords parsed through a standard cfg_keywords lists in
global/proxies section will be automatically detected if declared
experimental. To support a keyword outside of these lists,
check_kw_experimental must be called manually during its parsing.
If an experimental keyword is present in the config, the tainted flag is
updated.
For the moment, no keyword is marked as experimental.
